Red Cross volunteer and young shelter resident, Dec. 2008.Renew your commitment to the Red Cross in 2009, and give hope to your neighbors when they need it most.

In December 2008, your local Red Cross gave shelter, hot meals and comfort to more than 600 greater Capital Region residents (such as the young shelter resident seen at right) after the worst ice storm and power outage to affect our region in 20 years. Debra D. wrote to tell us how the Red Cross gave hope and aid to her disabled sister during the power outage:

"I didn´t lose power but, my disabled sister did. Thanks to the Red Cross she had a warm place to be taken care of, food, shelter and a place to go. She was taken to [the Red Cross shelter at the] W.F. Bruen Rescue Squad in East Greenbush, NY. They were super. She was not the only disabled person there and I was able to check on her they were very good to her. THANK YOU, RED CROSS. I don´t know what I would have done."

Renew your commitment to the Red Cross with a financial donation, then view pictures and read more about how we´re helping your neighbors.
