Disaster Action Team Workshop - This workshop will provide Red Cross employees and volunteers an orientation to the Red Cross disaster relief program and to the chapter’s Disaster Action Team (DAT) program. Participants are encouraged to complete Fulfilling Our Mission and Introduction to Disaster Services (an on-line course) before taking this course. 3/2/10 6 -8 pm Chapter House B. Gray

Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance - This basic level class will focus on the skills, knowledge and attitudes required of a Red Cross caseworker. Participants will learn how to conduct interviews, assess client needs and determine the appropriate assistance, using the tools and resources available to caseworkers. Fulfilling Our Mission is a required prerequisite to this course.

Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Your Compassion into Community Action #3 - This basic level course introduces disaster volunteers and members of other local agencies to the role of the Red Cross in the community’s actions in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters. The course will enable individual volunteers to translate their care and compassion for their community into action and provide information to other community agencies on Red Cross work and possible partnership in preparation for and response to a disaster. 3/8/10 6:30 - 9:30 pm Chapter House C. Mass Care Overview - This basic level course introduces participants to the activities performed by the Mass Care group in support of a disaster relief operation.  Fulfilling Our Mission is a required prerequisite to this course. 3/14/10 1 - 5 pm Chapter House Tim Bachman
Shelter Operations - This basic level course prepares employees and volunteers of the Red Cross and other agencies to work in shelters effectively and sensitively as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.  Fulfilling Our Mission and Mass Care Overview are required prerequisites to this course. 3/16/10 6 - 9:30 pm Chapter House B. Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery - Participants in this basic level course will gain a practical understanding of what a liaison is and what a liaison does – how they collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery in a manner that yields community trust in, appreciation for and goodwill toward the American Red Cross.  Fulfilling Our Mission and Mass Care Overview are required prerequisites to this course. It is also recommended that participants take Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance. YOU MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS.

Emergency Operations Center/Incident Command Liaison - This basic level course will prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers who will be assigned to government and emergency settings to work collaboratively with Red Cross partners, helping to ensure a coordinated response that will result in effective service delivery. Participants should also have sufficient operations knowledge and experience to provide a functional understanding of the concepts, principles and procedures associated with disaster assessment, sheltering, feeding, the provision of individual assistance and the basics of operations management in order to adequately participate in this course.  1FIRST AID/AED. This course is offered through the Health & Safety Department. To register, call (518) 458-8111 ext. 5134. You must be a current Disaster Services volunteer to sign up for this course under Disaster Services. Current volunteer status will be verified at the time of registration. Course fees vary.
